Mama Kim - The Grande Ole Opry, Itaewon - Print

Mama Kim and the Grand Ole Opry are legends of the Itaewon community. She opened the bar 42 years ago with her husband, an American soldier. Itaewon is located right next to the Yongsan army base, so it grew as an international neighborhood of Seoul, catering to the nightlife needs of the US army soldiers. The Grand Ole Opry is located on “Hooker Hill”. Though many of the bars have closed, the Opry remains, with its walls covered in cash written with stories, and a big, wooden Texas style square dance stage in the center of the bar.
